City of Liverpool FC are appealing for donations of clothing items we can distribute to Afghan refugees.

We will all now have seen and been moved by the heart-breaking scenes in Kabul and beyond, as Afghan citizens are attempting to flee their country to safety.

Many Afghans arriving in the UK are doing so without any possessions and with only the clothes on their back.

City of Liverpool FC in the Community has strong links to Liverpool’s migrant communities through its ground-breaking Football For Everyone scheme offering free football sessions for refugees and asylum seekers, and preventing social exclusion.

Over the past 5 years of its existence, many of the scheme’s participants have been Afghan refugees and asylum seekers.

The club therefore feels it is hugely important to support Afghan refugees in their time of need. We will be setting up a “Clothes Bank” taking in clothing donations at all home fixtures, starting at this week’s NPL West Division match against Glossop North End on Tuesday 24th August.

We will also accept donations at the club’s Community base The Purple Hub on Longview Lane in Huyton.

COLFC in the Community will then distribute items via local organisations supporting Afghan refugees.

The items which aid organisations are most in need of are as follows:

Baby clothing

Children’s clothing

Shoes of all sizes

Packs of new underwear

Packs of new socks

Tshirts

Pants

Warm jumpers/winter clothing

We welcome clothing donations from Purps supporters and of course any away fans on matchdays, and anyone else kind enough to offer their support.

Donations can be brought to the attention of any COLFC in the Community volunteers who will be at all first team matches, or by dropping off at The Purple Hub.

Thank you for your support.
